Bonzer Needs You!! (posted 1/11/11)

The Bonzer can opener has been nominated as one of Britain’s Great Design Innovations on the NEW ‘The Great exhibition 2012’ website and we need your votes!  The website aims to capture the true Great Britain Spirit, with the idea being evolved from the original Great Exhibition in 1851 and the Festival of Britain 1951.  Now Bonzer is asking catering professionals across the country to get the humble catering kitchen on the map, by voting the Bonzer Can Opener a true Great of Great Britain - www.thegreatexhibition2012.co.uk/greats/bonzer-can-opener

The Bonzer Can opener came to life during the Second World War and over 70 years later is still going strong. What is more, the Bonzer Can Opener is still manufactured in the UK, and despite many updates to meet the rigours of modern catering, it remains as recognisable and as loved by caterers today as it was back then. In fact anyone who has worked in a catering kitchen is very likely to have used a Bonzer Can opener at sometime or another.  Guy Cooper, Managing Director of Mitchell & Cooper is delighted by the nomination:

“At the last count Bonzer was 32nd in the list and was viewed more British than Sausage and Mash and Manchester United!  It would be fantastic to get Bonzer to the top of the list and to get the hard work that goes on in the catering kitchen on the map.”

Since the first can in 1940, it is estimated that Bonzer can openers have opened more than 10 billion cans and can be found in a diverse range of kitchens from small cafes, restaurants and large hotels, to military field kitchens across the world.

Vote for one of the most important items in any catering kitchen for over 70 years today by visiting www.thegreatexhibition2012.co.uk/greats/bonzer-can-opener

Bonzer Mo's for Movember (posted 25/10/11)

It's almost Movember, the month formerly known as November, now dedicated to growing moustaches and raising awareness and funds for men's health; specifically prostate and testicular cancer. Us men here at Bonzer are donating my top lip to the cause for 30 days in an effort to help change the face of men's health. Our Mo's will spark conversations, and no doubt generate some laughs; all in the name of raising vital awareness and funds for cancer's affecting men.

* 1 in 9 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime
* This year 37,000 new cases of the disease will be diagnosed
* 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime
* 26% of men are less likely to go the doctor compared to women

Support our Movember campaign by making a donation by either:
*Donating online at: http://www.movember.com/m/1490434
*If you want to go old school you can write a cheque payable to “Movember”, reference my name and Registration Number 1490434 and send it to: Movember Europe, PO Box 68600, London, EC1P 1EF

If you'd like to find out more about the type of work you'd be helping to fund by supporting Movember, take a look at the Movember website: http://uk.movember.com/about

Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to change the face of men's health.

Testimonial Bonzer EZ-40 Can Opener  (posted 25/10/11)

“In a career spanning thirty years in catering I have worked in establishments for the Ministry of Defence, Schools, private sector and the National Health Service where I am Catering Manager at the Western Community Hospital in Southampton. In that time I have only ever bought and used little wheeled Bonzers. I have only ever bought them through catering suppliers so was limited to the choice available which was fine until a few weeks ago when I was told that our current silver Bonzer was broken again.

I rung Bonzer direct and was put through to Matt Pearson, group sales manager. Matt came to our arranged meeting with a selection of Bonzers for me to try. Matt was extremely helpful in explaining the benefits of each Bonzer to match up with the needs of our service. I purchased two Bonzer EZ40 25". What a revelation the EZ40 is! It is easy to clean, can be taken apart but more importantly it is more robust than previous models I have used and easily opens the forty tins a day used in our production.

All that remains is for me to say to all catering managers everywhere that I recommend you look at all the different types of Bonzers available before making your selection.
